2012 NHL DRAFT: One-game Scouting Report for Faksa, Hertl, and Hyka from WJHC

This one-game scouting report is from the December 27th World Junior Hockey Championship game between Denmark  and the Czech Republic. The Czechs won the game by a score of 7-0.

#16 Radek Faksa is the CSB's 7th ranked North American skater. He's a 6'3", 202 lbs left-handed forward. He scored 29 goals and added 37 assists in 62 games with the OHL's Kitchener Rangers.

#19 Tomas Hertl is Central Scouting's 5th ranked European skater. He's a 6'2", 198 lbs left-handed forward. He has already played pro hockey in the Czech Republic, where he's scored 12 goals, and added 13 assists in 38 games.

#27 Tomas Hyka is a 5'11", 165 lbs right-handed shooting right winger. He scored 20 goals and 44 assists in 50 games with the Gatineau Olympiques of the QMJHL.  He is the CSB's 45th ranked North American skater; up from 65 on the mid-term rankings.

OVERALL GRADE

All 3 players had above-average grades. Tomas Hertl earned the top overall grade among this group of prospects. Hertl's grade was helped out by his strong work in both the offensive and defensive-zones, as well as the fact that he had more powerplay ice-time than both Faksa and Hyka.

Faksa scored 1 goal, 4 shots on goal, and a traditional plus/minus of plus-1. Hertl scored 2 goals, had 4 shots on goal, and a plus-1 rating. Hyka had 2 assists, four shots on goal, and a plus-1 rating.

EVEN-STRENGTH RISK/REWARD RATING AND RATIO

#16 Faksa had an even-strength risk/reward rating of 0.93, and an ES ratio of 1.6 successful plays for every 1 unsuccessful play. #19 Hertl earned an above-average even-strength risk/reward rating of 1.85, and this group's top ratio at 3.88 successful plays for every 1 unsuccessful play. His best work was done in the offensive-zone, and he engaged in 3.13 successful plays.

#27 Hyka had the top ES risk/reward at 1.94, and the second-best ratio at 2.21 successful plays for every 1 unsuccessful play. He showed the most confidence carrying the puck, and had impressive numbers in both the neutral and offensive-zones.
