2012 NHL DRAFT: One-game Scouting Reports from CHL Top Prospects Game (2 OF 4)

These 1-game scouting reports are from the 2012 CHL Top Prospects game. The game took place on February 1st, 2012. Team Orr won the game on a last minute goal by Branden Trook; other goal-scorers include Dillon Fournier and Griffin Reinhart.

OVERALL GRADE

The top overall grade for Team Orr defensemen was shared by #27 Adam Pelech, and #51 Derrick Pouliot. Five of the six defensemen earned grades above 70, while the lowest grade belonged to #6 Gianluca Curcuruto.

EVEN-STRENGTH RISK/REWARD RATING AND RATIO

The top even-strength risk/reward rating belonged to #51 Derrick Pouliot. Pouliot had a superstar-level even-strength rating of 2.83, and was involved in an incredible 5.61 events per-minute played. His best work was produced  in the defensive-zone.  No other d-man had a risk/reward rating above 1.89, and the lowest rating was earned by #3 Dalton Thrower.

The top even-strength ratio was earned by #27 Adam Pelech. Pelech made 3.09 successful plays for every 1 unsuccessful play while at even-strength. His ratio was only slightly better than #51 Pouliot, who made 3.04 successful plays for every 1 unsuccessful play.

The lowest ratio belonged to #3 Thrower, as he made 2.18 successful plays for every 1 unsuccessful play. Keep in mind, although Thrower's ratio was the lowest of the group, it was still an above-average ratio.

OFFENSIVE-ZONE RISK/REWARD RATING AND RATIO

#3 Dalton Thrower had an offensive-zone risk/reward rating of 0.27, and an o-zone ratio of 1.8 successful plays for every 1 unsuccessful play.  He recovered 4 loose-pucks, and was successful with 3 of his 5 pass-attempts. He was involved in 0.93 offensive-zone events per-minute played, and was successful with only 2 of his 6 attempts to get a shot through to the net.

#4 Matt Finn earned an offensive-zone risk/reward rating of  0.27, and had an o-zone ratio of 2.33 successful plays for every 1 unsuccessful play. He recovered 3 loose-pucks, and was successful with 1 of his 2 pass-attempts. He failed with 2 of his 3 attempts to beat opposing players 1on1 (deke), and was involved in 0.67 o-zone events per-minute played.

#6 Gianluca Curcuruto had an o-zone risk/reward rating of 0.20, and an offensive-zone ratio of 2 successful plays for every 1 unsuccessful play. He won his only o-zone puck-battle, recovered 2 loose-pucks, and was able to get 1 of his 3 shot attempts through to the net. He was involved in 0.60 offensive-zone events per-minute played.

#8 Griffin Reinhart earned an offensive-zone rating of 0.50, and an o-zone ratio of 2.8 successful plays for every 1 unsuccessful play. He was able to get 3 of his 5 shot attempts through to the net, he won his only o-zone puck-battle, and  was successful with 4 of his 6 pass-attempts. He was involved in 1.06 o-zone events per-minute played.

#27 Adam Pelech had an offensive-zone risk/reward rating of 0.20, and an o-zone ratio of 4 successful plays for every 1 unsuccessful play.  He was able to get his only attempted shot on net, while completing 1 pass, and winning 1 puck-battle. He was only involved in 0.33 o-zone events per-minute played, as he focused on playing sound defense.

#51 Derrick Pouliot earned this group's top offensive-zone risk/reward rating at 0.67. He also had the third-best o-zone ratio, as he made 2.5 successful plays for every 1 unsuccessful play. He recovered 7 loose-pucks, and was successful with 9 of his 11 pass-attempts. He was able to get only 2 of his 6 shots through to the net, and he engaged in 1.56 offensive-zone events per-minute played.

He won only 1 of 4 defensive-zone puck-battles, and recovered 5 loose-pucks. He was successful with 13 of his 18 d-zone passes, and was involved in 2.27 d-zone events per-minute played. He also blocked 3 shots.

#4 Matt Finn earned a d-zone rating of 0.93, and a defensive-zone ratio of 2.27 successful plays for every 1 unsuccessful play. He won only 2 of 5 puck-battles, and recovered 7 loose-pucks. He was successful with 11 of his 13 pass-attempts, but failed with each of his 2 attempts to beat opposing players 1on1 (deke). He was involved in 2.4 defensive-zone events per-minute played.


#6 Gianluca Curcuruto had a solid d-zone risk/reward rating of 1.20, and a d-zone ratio of 2.5 successful plays for every 1 unsuccessful play. He lost both his d-zone puck-battles, but recovered an impressive 13 loose-pucks. He was successful with 11 of his 16 pass-attempts, and was involved in 2.8 defensive-zone events per-minute played.


#8 Griffin Reinhart earned a lower-than-expected defensive-zone risk/reward rating of 0.83 and d-zone ratio of 2.07 successful plays for every 1 unsuccessful play. In fact, he had the second lowest d-zone rating among this group of players. He lost 3 of 7 puck-battles, and recovered 10 loose pucks. He was successful with 14 of his 20 passes, and was involved in 2.39 d-zone events per-minute played.

#27 Adam Pelech had this group's second-highest defensive-zone risk/reward rating at 1.33. He also had the top d-zone ratio, as he made 3.86 successful plays for every 1 unsuccessful play. He won 2 of his 4 puck-battles, recovered 8 loose-pucks, and was successful with 11 of his 13 pass-attempts. He blocked 3 shots, completed 1 dump-out, and was involved in 2.27 defensive-zone events per-minute played.

#51 Derrick Pouliot earned this group's top d-zone rating at 1.78. He also had the second-best defensive-zone ratio, as he made 3.13 successful plays for every 1 unsuccessful play.  He won 4 of 6 puck-battles, recovered 10 loose pucks, and was successful with 20 of his 28 pass-attempts. He blocked 2 shots, intercepted 2 passes, and used a poke-check to remove puck-possession from an opposing player on 6 separate occasions.

NEUTRAL-ZONE RISK/REWARD RATING AND RATIO

The top neutral-zone risk/reward rating was earned by #8 Griffin Reinhart. The second-best rating belong to #4  Matt Finn, while the lowest neutral zone rating belonged to #27 Adam Pelech.

The top n-zone ratio was earned by #8 Griffin Reinhart, while the lowest ratio belonged to #27 Adam Pelech.  Reinhart was helped by his 7 successful neutral-zone passes, while Pelech's ratio was hurt by his inability to successfully dump the puck deep into the offensive-zone, as he failed to do this on 2 occassions.
