NHL DRAFT: One-game Scouting Reports for US Players in Under-18 Final

This scouting report is from the World Under-18 Championship final between the US and Sweden. Included in this report are all the draft-eligible prospects playing for Team USA.

OVERALL GRADE

This top overall grade was earned by #24 Connor Carrick. Other players with grades above 78 include #7 Matt Grzelcyk, #10 Pat Sieloff, #14 Tomas Dipauli, and #15 Daniel O'Regan.

The lowest grade was produced by #19 Cam Darcy. The only other players with grades below 65 were #27 Quentin Shore , and possible first round pick, #16 Brady Skjei.

EVEN-STRENGTH RISK/REWARD RATING AND RATIO

 The best even-strength risk/reward was earned by #15 Daniel O'Regan. He earned an ES risk/reward rating of 3.57, and an impressive ratio of 3.78 successful plays for every 1 unsuccessful play. Other players with risk/reward ratings above 2.00 include; #24 Connor Carrick, and #14 Thomas Dipauli. Carrick had the top ratio, as he was successful with an absolutely incredible 10.5 plays for every 1 unsuccessful play.

The lowest risk/reward belonged to #19 Cam Darcy. The only other American players with rating below 1.0 were #16 Brady Skjei, and #27 Quentin Shore.

#13 Frank Vatrano (forward) had a terrible d-zone risk/reward rating of -0.14, and a defensive-zone ratio of 0.75 successful plays for every 1 unsuccessful play. This means that he made more unsuccessful than successful plays in the defensive-zone. He recovered 2 loose-pucks, but lost one puck-race and he wasn't able to complete his only pass-attempt. #14 Thomas Dipauli (forward) earned a defensive-zone risk/reward rating of 0.71, and a d-zone ratio of 2.25 successful plays for every 1 unsuccessful play; excellent numbers for a forward. #15 Daniel O'Regan (forward) earned an excellent defensive-zone risk/reward rating of 0.71, and an equally impressive d-zone ratio of 3.5 successful plays for every 1 unsuccessful play. He  won his only puck-battle, recovered 3 loose-pucks, and was successful with 2 of his 3 pass-attempts. He engaged in 1.39 defensive-zone events per-minute of ice-time.

#16 Brady Skjei (defenseman) had a defensive-zone risk/reward rating of 0.44, and a d-zone ratio of 1.33 successful plays for every 1 unsuccessful play. He won 2 of 3 puck-battles, and recovered an impressive 8 loose-pucks. He was only successful with 4 of 10 defensive-zone passes, and engaged in 3.11 defensive-zone events per-minute played.

#17 Nikolas Kerdiles (forward) earned a a d-zone risk/reward rating of 0.29, and was successful with both of his defensive-zone events. He recovered 1 loose-puck, and completed his only pass-attempt.

#19 Cam Darcy (forward) earned a brutal defensive-zone risk/reward rating of -0.57, and was successful with only 1 of his 6 defensive-zone events. He lost both his puck-battles, and was unsuccessful with his only pass-attempt.

NEUTRAL-ZONE RISK/REWARD RATING AND RATIO

Five players were perfect in the neutral-zone. This means that they were successful with all of their neutral-zone events. They include #7 Matt Grzelcyk, #14 Thomas Dipauli, #15 Daniel O'Regan, #22 Riley Barber, and #24 Connor Carrick.

Kyle Osterberg #9 was the only US player with a negative neutral-zone risk/reward rating. That said, he engaged in only 1 n-zone event the entire game.
